HOW TO VOLUNTEER WITH PEOPLE OUTDOORS
People Outdoors utilizes the services of many dedicated volunteers, to ensure that our programs maintain the high standard that we expect. Recruitment of volunteers is a constant, ongoing process. As the number of different programs that we offer increase, so to our group of volunteers needs to be constantly increased.
Currently, we need to increase the pool of volunteer support workers. Volunteers need to be at least 16 years of age, and willing to offer support to the variety of individuals who participate in the programs run by People Outdoors.
Weekend camps are conducted on a regular basis, from Friday evening to Sunday afternoon. Groups stay in bunkhouse accommodation at ACA member campsites and all transport, accommodation and meal costs are covered for volunteers. These weekend camps form the majority of our workload, but there are other program options for volunteers to select from.
Volunteers work on a one-to-one basis with campers, with another volunteer taking on the role of Camp Leader. Volunteers are reimbursed for their out-of-pocket expenses incurred whilst on camp.
Duties
required of volunteers include:
• providing support for their campers to participate in recreation activities
safely,
• ensuring social interaction takes place between campers,
• assisting campers with personal care requirements as necessary,
• and - have fun!
People Outdoors provides training for their volunteers, as well as a pre-camp information session where the campers’ needs are discussed and appropriate matching is done. Volunteers are expected to make a time to visit their camper prior to camp.
