About Us
People Outdoors - "Adventure for All"

Outdoor Experiences for People Living with Disability

People Outdoors, a program of the Australian Camps Association, was established in 1989 to provide outdoor recreation for people of all ages with physical or intellectual disabilities. The Australian Camps Association is a registered NDIS service provider and accredited with the Quality Tourism Framework.

Camp programs include overnight through to four day residential camps and provide people living with disability the opportunity to experience the social and developmental benefits of adventure outdoors. In some cases, participation is assisted by our charity, the People Outdoors Fund. All programs are staffed by trained and passionate professionals and volunteers.

People Outdoors camps are hallmarked by a high level of communication with parents/guardians and campers, including a personal pre-camp intake meeting and post program evaluation. Our programs only operate at Australian Camps Association member residential camps that are accredited with the Quality Tourism Framework.

People Outdoors camps are outcomes focused and are all about fun, personal development, social connection and enjoying the great outdoors.

People Outdoors dedicates enormous resources to training, nurturing and developing our volunteers and skilled professional staff, who deliver excellent “Adventure for All” programs.

People Outdoors are experts in providing outdoor experiences for people living with disability.

Acknowledgement of Country

The Australian Camps Association, including People Outdoors, acknowledges that wherever our members are situated across Australia, Indigenous people are the Traditional Custodians of country. They have lived, walked and cared for the lands, waters, environment and wildlife for over 60,000 years.

People Outdoors constantly strives to ensure that all people, no matter their background, are included and welcome to our services.

In 2020, we amended our logo to symbolically represent the foot and fingerprints of all Traditional Custodians across Australia. Whenever People Outdoors uses this logo we respectfully acknowledge this truth.

Our Values

  • Achieving “Adventure for All” through recreation programs designed to meet each participant’s goals, such as increasing social interactions, experiencing and learning from outdoor adventure activities and more.
  • Nurturing, supporting and encouraging campers to be independent.
  • Increasing the opportunities for a wide range of ages to be involved with residential camps and outdoor recreation activities.
  • Treating all participants with dignity and respect.
  • Assisting families to link into other community activities and networks.
  • Providing a high level of support and commitment to all participants, volunteers and skilled professional staff.

Vision Statement for People Outdoors

‘Adventure for All'.

“My daughter loves the volunteers at people outdoors, she finds peer interaction difficult but having the volunteers of all ages gives her the opportunity to feel part of a friendship group. We love turning up at drop off and hearing lots of different people calling her name and making her feel so welcome. Thank you people outdoors x”– Michelle (Camper Parent).
