People Outdoors utilises the services of many dedicated volunteers and staff to ensure that our programs maintain a high standard. Recruitment of volunteers is a constant and ongoing process. As the number of different programs that we offer increase, so does our need for more volunteers!
We are always looking for enthusiastic individuals to volunteer with People Outdoors. Volunteers need to be at least 16 years of age and willing to offer support to our wider team who deliver a variety of support to individuals to participate in the programs run by People Outdoors.
People Outdoors run residential camp programs for people living with disability aged 6 to adulthood.
Weekend camps are conducted on a regular basis, from Friday evening to Sunday afternoon. The group stay in bunkhouse accommodation at Australian Camps Association Member camps. These camps are accredited by the Quality Tourism Framework. All transport, accommodation and meal costs are covered for volunteers.
These weekend camps form the majority of our workload, but there are other program options for volunteers to select from such as day programs and school holiday camps.
Each camp or day activity has an experienced Program Leader in attendance and a People Outdoors staff member is always ‘on-call’ for the duration of the camp/activity.
People Outdoors provides training for volunteers, as well as a pre-camp information session where the campers’ needs are discussed. Volunteers are required to contact their camper prior to camp.
