Improving Wellbeing, Confidence and Connectedness One Camp at a Time!

Quality outdoor experiences for people living with disability.

For 35 years, the Australian Camps Association (ACA), has provided supported camps and outdoor experiences for kids, teens, and adults living with disability through its People Outdoors program. We believe that camp-based, led outdoor experiences provide physical and emotional wellbeing and social benefits for all people, regardless of their ability. This is supported by research undertaken by the Outdoor Youth Programs Resilience (OYPA) which measured the short and long term impacts of outdoor education on young Australians.

Our programs include:

  • two-night weekend camps
  • three-night mid-week camps during the school holidays

The camps are all-inclusive providing participants with a disability support worker (at the support ratio they require), all meals, accommodation, transport*, a fully programmed camp with supported adventure activities, specialised instruction and equipment for the duration of the camp.

*transport may need to be arranged by the camper/family - please check details with our friendly staff.

Camp is a fantastic experience for everyone — our campers have an incredible time with a mix of fun outdoor adventures and indoor activities, plenty of opportunities to try new things, build confidence, and make lifelong friends. And for parents and carers, it’s also a valuable chance to take a break, recharge, and know their loved one is having a safe and supported adventure.

Participants might find themselves:

  • Making memories: canoeing/kayaking, archery, bush walking, surfing and more.
  • Challenging themselves: climbing high and low ropes courses, zipping through the air on the flying fox or giant swing.
  • Developing skills: spending time away from home, whilst being supported to be as independent as possible.
  • Making friends: taking part in activities like orienteering or raft building that require teamwork and cooperation to successfully complete tasks.
  • Being creative: arts and crafts, discos, movie nights and campfire cooking.

Check out this video to see what it’s like to join us on camp.

When you first join our program, we will have a pre-camp meeting with you to learn more about you, your interests and your support needs and match you with a qualified disability support worker who will support you and ensure you have a great time!

Our programs are held at various ACA Member Camps that are located:

  • Victoria: 2-3 hours from Melbourne or Ballarat
  • New South Wales: 2-3 hours from Sydney
  • Queensland: Gold Coast and Sunshine Coast

We have a calendar of upcoming programs available - https://www.peopleoutdoors.org.au/our-programs/upcoming-program

For more information and quotes, call 03 9863 6824 or email peopleoutdoors@auscamps.asn.au. We’d love to help you, or those you care for, experience the benefits of supported adventure outdoors.
