Remembering Taliesin (Tal) Harwood
In early April (2020), People Outdoors received the sad news that one of our longest serving volunteers and disability support workers, Tal Harwood, had passed away. The following tribute is written by Tim McNeill, long term volunteer/staff member and friend of Tal.
Sometimes Tal was a hard man to reach. He often ran out of power on his phone, or lost his phone. Sometimes public transport or his car had let him down, but once you got Tal on camp he had a really big heart and he was there 100%. He would often contact People Outdoors if he had a weekend free to see if there was a camp running that he could help out and volunteer on.
It is impossible to calculate just how many camper’s lives Tal has touched through all his volunteering and working on camps and day activities. It is clear that Tal made an impression on those who he worked with. These are some of the words used in tribute to Tal....
“Tal was always great for a laugh, wonderful, caring, lively, lovely, had a good heart, kind, would do anything to help, a pleasure to work with, pleasant and lovely guy, funny, massive heart, an amazing team leader, very supportive, always happy to do what was asked of him, loved by all campers and carers alike. Left a lasting impression, helpful, welcoming, gentle lovely man, awesome leader and a beautiful soul.”
So awesome to be able to work/volunteer with Tal over the last 14 years. An honour and privilege to be able to work with you in January. Always fun mucking around with you. What a big heart you have mate. Rest easy.
