Why Volunteer For People Outdoors
People Outdoors utilises the services of many dedicated Volunteers and staff to ensure that our programs maintain a high standard. Recruitment of Volunteers is a constant and ongoing process. As the number of different programs that we offer increase, so does our need for more Volunteers!
Well, we thought, who better to ask than our Volunteers. Here's what they had to say:
“It has been a true joy to volunteer with People Outdoors, knowing that you are making a positive impact on the lives around you!” - Claire Wong
“People Outdoors gave me an opportunity to demonstrate the skills and knowledge I gained while completing my certificate IV in Disability and it is a privilege to work within a team of dedicated Volunteers.” - Ann Vidler
“I initally volunteered as a requirement for one of my subjects at uni. What I quickly discovered was that being a 'Volley' wasn't just an opportunity to help people with disabilities enjoy the outdoors but it also provided a chance to build friendships with them and fellow 'Volleys'. I've been on quite a few camps and day activities and it's been a very rewarding part of my life. When you're volunteering it can be challenging at times but you know that the parents deal with these challenges on a daily basis and giving them that opportunity to have respite for a day or a week is extremely comforting. Meeting other 'Volleys' has been an essential part of the journey. You meet a pretty diverse group of people who have different perspectives on life which you otherwise wouldn't have met if not banded together by People Outdoors.” - Andrew Le
“People Outdoors is an important beneficiary of my time as I not only have fun, I learn so much. People Outdoors has assisted me in becoming the person I am and developed the skills I have today. I have been able to take these skills into the classroom as a teacher and I have People Outdoors to thank for that. If I didn’t spend time on camps, I would not be the person I am today.” - Hayley Spector
“Being at People Outdoors has given me the opportunity to see these people achieve amazing things that even 'mainstream' people find difficult to do. Over the years I have made lifelong friends because of volunteering at People Outdoors” - Chris Parrish
“ I volunteer my time because I love seeing the happy smiling faces of our campers and hearing about how they had a fantastic time on camp, while knowing that their parents are getting a much needed break. Some of our campers don't have the opportunity to experience much joy so I thoroughly enjoy seeing them so carefree and happy. I also enjoy meeting new people and having fun with my new friends so People Outdoors is the place for me. I love making others happy and think it's a wonderful thing to be able to do! My advice would be that if you love making others happy, helping out campers and their families, adventure activities and sometimes a challenge, then get in there and join us! We would love to have you - you never know the difference you can make and what you can achieve. I guarantee you will love it.” - Rachel Vistarini
